Cottage industries and small businesses

Most Caribbean businesses are small: a seamstress, a corner shop, a home bakery. The smallest, run from home with family help, are cottage industries. Paper 1 asks which business is a cottage industry in most years.

By the end of this page you can

  • Describe the features of a cottage industry
  • Outline what small businesses do for an economy
  • Weigh the advantages and disadvantages of small business
  • Spot a cottage industry in a list of businesses

Goals tick themselves off as you try the activities below.
