What managers do

Management means getting work done through people. Managers plan, organise, direct, control, coordinate, delegate and motivate, and they answer to owners, staff, customers, society and government. Paper 1 asks which function is selecting objectives and the procedures to reach them (planning) in most years.

By the end of this page you can

  • Define planning and the other functions of management
  • Tell a function of management from something that is not one
  • Outline management’s responsibilities to each group
  • Match an action to the responsibility it meets

Goals tick themselves off as you try the activities below.
