A ratio compares parts: 2 : 3 means 2 cups of one thing for every 3 cups of the other.
Equal ratios mix the same colour: multiply or divide both numbers by the same number (2 : 3 = 4 : 6).
To simplify, divide both numbers by their highest common factor: 6 : 9 = 2 : 3.
To share in 2 : 3, add the parts (5), find one part, then multiply.
In 2 : 3 there are 5 parts in all, so the first part is 2/5 of the whole.
The better buy costs less for one: divide the price by how many are in the pack.
